Climate Change spurring rise in sea level, frequent cyclones, says experts

Over the past 20 years, due to continuous rise in the sea-surface temperature, the frequency of tropical cyclones forming in the Arabian sea has increased 10 times.

Thus, there is a threat of occurrence of more intense tropical cyclones as an increase in the sea temperature was noticed, Former DG Pakistan Meteorological Department and Regional Program Manager Center for Mountain Development (ICIMOD) Dr. Ghulam Rasool stated.

He added that this could also result in seriously affecting coastal ecosystems, destruction of agricultural lands, along with the coastal belt, and may cause mass migration due to loss of livelihood.
